Mit warmherzigem Blick wendet sich die damals 26-j?hrige Johanna Louise Esche, genannt Hanni, auf dem von Edvard Munch 1905 gemalten Portr?t dem Betrachter zu. Selbst aus einer Unternehmerfamilie stammend, heiratete sie 1899 Herbert Eugen Esche aus der Chemnitzer Strumpfwarenfabrikanten-Dynastie und gebar ihm 1900 einen Sohn und 1903 eine Tochter. Das junge Ehepaar bezog Ende 1903 eine neue Villa in Chemnitz, die es zwei Jahre zuvor bei einem jungen belgischen Architekten in Auftrag gegeben hatte. Es handelte sich um den ersten grossen Bauauftrag an den sp?ter zu hohem Ruhm gelangten Henry van de Velde.[1]
Um ihrem inzwischen errungenen gesellschaftlichen und famili?ren Stand Ausdruck zu verleihen,[2] hegten Herbert und Hanni Esche den Wunsch, Bildnisse von sich selbst und ihren beiden Kleinkindern malen zu lassen. So progressiv wie die Architektur ihrer Villa und deren Innenausstattung waren, kam eigentlich nur ein K¨¹nstler in Frage, der dieser Radikalit?t gerecht werden konnte. Im Fr¨¹hsommer 1905 machte van de Velde das Ehepaar Esche auf Munch aufmerksam. Der norwegische Skandalk¨¹nstler wurde nach 1900 vor allem in Deutschland zu einem gefragten Portr?tisten im Kreise einiger wenigen, neuen Kunsttendenzen gegen¨¹ber aufgeschlossenen Leuten. Sein erster wichtiger Auftraggeber war der L¨¹becker Augenarzt Max Linde, der seine vier S?hne von Munch 1903 als Gruppe portr?tieren liess. Nachdem Herbert und Hanni Esche Munchs Gem?lde bei einem Besuch bei Linde mit Begeisterung aufgenommen hatten, kontaktierte Frau Esche den K¨¹nstler am 12. Juli 1905 und ?usserte ihm gegen¨¹ber den Wunsch, ihre beiden Kinder von ihm portr?tieren zu lassen.[3] Zu Beginn des Auftrags an Munch stand daher das ?Kinderbild?, Portr?ts der Eheleute wurden offenbar erst sp?ter thematisiert.[4] In seiner Zusage an Hanni Esche schrieb der K¨¹nstler gleichzeitig, wie er ¨¹blicherweise vorgehe ?Ich male ziemlich schnell aber brauche einige Tagen (sic) um die Modellen (sic) zu studieren.?[5] ¨¹ber Munchs Vorgehen war Frau Esche bereits von Linde ins Bild gesetzt worden ?Er arbeitet stets so, dass er lange aufsaugt, um pl?tzlich mit elementarer Kraft und Wucht das Geschaute schnell zu gestalten.?[6]
Diese Schnelligkeit und Spontaneit?t in der Ausf¨¹hrung sind auch im ?Bildnis Hanni Esche? erhalten geblieben, obschon es sich um die zweite Version ihres Konterfeis handelt, das Munch nach seiner Abreise von Chemnitz Ende Oktober 1905 anfertigte. Eine Fotografie vom Oktober 1905 zeigt die erste Version der Portr?tierten in derselben Haltung, jedoch vor einem dunkleren (vermutlich blauen [7]) Hintergrund sowie in einem h?heren Format. Der Hintergrund in jenem, heute verschollenen Gem?lde scheint die Raumsituation des Wohnzimmers mit blauer Wandbespannung und hellem Wandstreifen unterhalb der Decke aufzunehmen. Diese Probeh?ngung d¨¹rfte Munch im Einverst?ndnis mit den Auftraggebern dazu veranlasst haben, Hanni Esche im gemalten hellblauen, luftigen Kleid vor einem andersfarbigen Grund und in einem in der H?he verk¨¹rzten Format darzustellen.[8] Munch entschied sich im November 1905 f¨¹r einen leuchtend gelben Grund, wie er ihn auch bei anderen Portr?ts um 1904 bis 1906 einsetzte.[9]

Giclée Quality Guarantee:
Giclée printing is meant to produce a product at a higher quality and longer lifespan than a standard desktop inkjet printer. The word was used to describe digital reproductions of conventional artworks (painting or drawing) or photographs.
There are at least three basic criteria which must be met in order for the print to be considered a true giclée...
- For giclée printing, the paper or substrate used to actually print the final piece must be acid free and consist of a 100% cotton base.
- Any image that is to be printed as a giclée needs to be created at a resolution of no less than 300 dots per inch (DPI). This is to ensure that the final print has the sharpest detail and lacks any of the fragmentation that can occur with images less than 300 DPI.
- The last step to creating or confirming a true giclée print is the type of ink and printer used. The biggest contrast between a standard inkjet print and a giclée print is that giclées are printed using pigment-based inks rather than the dye-based inks found in lower cost inkjets. Pigment-based inks have a longer life span that can last anywhere from 100 to 200 years without significant fading.
